The Programme

The Volunteer Police Cadets scheme is open to you if you are 13-18 and living in Lancashire. It will give you the chance to experience the full spectrum of policing within Lancashire, while carrying out fundraising challenges. You will also take part in many projects aimed at breaking down barriers between the police, young people and the wider community, while working towards gaining a BTEC qualification.

Police Cadets help in the community by getting involved in stewarding local events such as fairs, town shows and carnivals and they also help the local neighbourhood policing teams do leaflet drops, crime prevention initiatives, community safety events and street surveys.

Police Cadets are taught basic knowledge in a variety of policing activities and the law gaining an insight into road traffic collisions, first aid, officer safety, conflict management, the caution, and stop & search powers.

The Cadets also have the opportunity to visit different departments in the police service, such as Air Support Unit, Dog Section, Firearms unit, Roads Policing and Scenes of Crime unit.

The scheme aims to give you a chance to express your feelings on policing issues and to make a positive contribution to your community. You’ll develop your skills, experience a variety of activities, make new friends, improve your self-esteem and confidence and achieve a nationally recognised qualification.
