If someone is caught stealing how will it affect them?

If someone is caught, it is very likely that they will receive a criminal record. Having a criminal record could mean they are unable to get into college or university, get a job and travel to some countries, like the United States of America.

What happens if I get caught shoplifting?

If you are caught shoplifting, you will almost certainly be banned from ever shopping at that store again. You may also be given a Civil Recovery Notice – this note is from the store and tells you how they plan to get the money back  that they have lost through your actions.

If you are over 16 you may also face a £80 fixed fine.

How can I increase my chances of getting my belongings back?

What is 'handling stolen goods'?

If you buy, sell or keep something that has been taken from someone else, this is known as handling stolen goods. If someone tries to sell you an item really cheap, it’s probably been stolen so you should think twice about buying it.
